Sir Edmund Percival Hillary, KG, KBE, geboren am 20. Juli 1919 in Auckland, Neuseeland, und verstorben am 11. Januar 2008 in Auckland, Neuseeland war ein neuseeländischer Bergsteiger. Zusammen mit dem nepalesischen Bergsteiger Tenzing Norgay, einem Sherpa, gelang ihm am 29. Mai 1953 die Erstbesteigung des Mount Everest, des höchsten Berges der Erde.
A-Frame hut on the Ross Ice Shelf near Scott Base (Antarctica), which burnt down in 2009. Originally part of the United States base, it had been used by New Zealanders since 1971. The hut was a favourite haunt of Sir Edmund Hillary.
