John F. Kennedy, Jr. war ein US-amerikanischer Jurist und Verleger, der am 25. November 1960 geboren wurde und am 16. Juli 1999 verstarb. Er war das dritte Kind von John F. Kennedy und Jacqueline Bouvier, wobei seine älteste Schwester bereits vor der Geburt starb und sein jüngerer Bruder nur zwei Tage nach seiner Geburt lebte. Ein prägendes Ereignis in Kennedys Kindheit war die Beisetzung seines ermordeten Vaters an seinem dritten Geburtstag. Das weltbekannte Foto, auf dem er vor dem Sarg seines Vaters salutiert, ging um die Welt. Kennedy schloss 1982 sein Studium an der Brown University ab und begann danach ein Jurastudium an der New York University Law School, das er erst im dritten Anlauf mit dem Anwaltsexamen abschloss. Bis 1993 arbeitete er dann bei der Staatsanwaltschaft New York. In den frühen 1980er Jahren war Kennedy mit der Schauspielerin Daryl Hannah zusammen und hatte später eine kurze Beziehung mit Sarah Jessica Parker. Das People-Magazin kürte ihn 1988 zum "Sexiest Man Alive". Nach dem Tod seiner Mutter im Mai 1994 orientierte sich Kennedy beruflich neu und gründete das Politmagazin "George", das jedoch wenig Erfolg hatte. Im selben Jahr erwarb er ein Loft in Tribeca, wo er zunächst alleine und später mit Carolyn Bessette lebte. Die beiden heirateten am 21. September 1996 auf Cumberland Island in Georgia. Im Jahr 1999 stürzte das von Kennedy selbst gesteuerte Flugzeug auf dem Weg zur Hochzeit seiner Cousine Rory Kennedy vor Martha’s Vineyard ab. Neben Kennedy kamen auch seine Frau und deren Schwester Lauren Bessette ums Leben. Untersuchungen deuteten darauf hin, dass Kennedy als Pilot mit den schwierigen Flugbedingungen über dem offenen Meer überfordert war. Die Urnen von John F. Kennedy, Jr., seiner Frau und Schwägerin wurden am 22. Juli 1999 auf See beigesetzt.

Caroline Kennedy's pony, Macaroni, was a present from Lyndon Johnson. Macaroni roamed freely around the White House grounds and received thousands of fan letters from the American public. Caroline also had a famous dog named Pushinka, who was given to her by the head of the Soviet Union, Nikita Khrushchev.
