Yanis Varoufakis, geboren am 24. März 1961 in Athen, Griechenland ist ein griechischer Wirtschaftswissenschaftler und Politiker.
Er ist Autor mehrerer Sachbücher. Bei der Parlamentswahl im Januar 2015 wurde er über die Liste von Syriza erstmals ins griechische Parlament gewählt und war vom 27. Januar bis zum 6. Juli 2015 Finanzminister im Kabinett Alexis Tsipras I. Zusammen mit weiteren Mitstreitern gründete er am 8. Februar 2016 die paneuropäische Partei DiEM25 und war für die Europawahl am 26. Mai 2019 Spitzenkandidat der Partei MERA25, des deutschen Ablegers dieser Bewegung, mit der er jedoch kein Mandat für das Europäische Parlament erhielt. Bei der Parlamentswahl vom 7. Juli 2019 wurde er mit dem griechischen Ableger seiner Bewegung, der Partei MeRA25, erneut ins griechische Parlament gewählt. Varoufakis besitzt neben der griechischen auch die australische Staatsangehörigkeit.
